Golden Spike Ceremony

On May 6th, 2019, the N Scale Division of the GSMRR had a Golden Spike Ceremony to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.  Thanks to Ed Sharett for the great photo.

On May 9th, the Union Pacific is had a similar ceremony in Ogden, Utah with the full size prototypes of these two steam locomotives. The recently restored Big Boy UP #4014 in this ceremony is one of the largest steam locomotives ever to run on US rails.

On May 10, the Golden Spike Ceremony was reenacted at Promontory Point, Utah, with full size replicas of the 1880’s 4-4-0 Atlantic locomotives used in the original 1869 ceremony.
